About the Role & Work Environment

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and tries individuals charged with the gravest crimes of concern to the international community, including genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Operating under the Director of Judicial Services, the Information Management Services Section ensures that the Registry deploys adequate information management services for the benefit of all organs of the Court. This dynamic IT section handles everything from digital archives and knowledge management to advanced networking, communications, and rigorous information security standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Database & ERP Administration Officer, the selected intern will assist with:

  • Supporting the administration, maintenance, and daily operation of the organization's database environments, including new server installations and upgrades.
  • Assisting with the rigorous testing of backup and restore procedures, as well as supporting disaster recovery test exercises.
  • Configuring and actively monitoring Database Servers to ensure that essential backups and scheduled database jobs are completed successfully.
  • Undertaking other IT-related tasks that foster learning across various technical fields of expertise.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Educational Status: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognized university in an IT-related field, preferably Computer Science or Database Administration. A very good record of academic performance is expected.
  • Experience: Practical experience is not an essential prerequisite, but candidates must have less than three years of relevant full-time professional experience. Experience with Windows Server and SQL Server is strongly preferred.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in either French or English (the working languages of the Court) is required. Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Must be willing to learn advanced DB management and SAP technical management (in-house training provided). Specialized knowledge in Microsoft SQL or Server Clustering is a strong asset.

Remuneration & Conditions

  • Financial Status: Internship placements at the ICC are strictly unfunded. The ICC does not provide remuneration or reimburse any expenses incurred before, during, or after the internship.
  • Self-Support: Applicants must have the personal financial means to support themselves in The Hague for the entire six-month duration of the placement.
