The WARES Group is seeking a motivated Research Environmental Engineer to join the hydrology and flood risk team. This team is recognized for expertise in precipitation frequency analysis, probable flood hazard assessments (PFHA), and downstream consequence analysis. The role supports hydropower owners, dam safety programs, and the broader water resources community.
You will support hydrologic, hydraulic, and reservoir modeling projects, including data analysis, model setup, calibration, and interpretation of results. Essential duties include:
- Modeling & Analysis: Develop and calibrate hydrologic, hydraulic, and river basin simulation models.
- Data Management: Collect, analyze, and summarize technical and hydrologic data; perform QA/QC.
- Tool Development: Design spreadsheets, scripts, and databases to improve workflow efficiency.
- Project Support: Lead small projects or task orders; contribute to proposal development.
- Communication: Share work internally and externally through presentations and conference papers.
- Educational Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience; OR
- Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience; OR
- PhD with 0 years of experience.
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require sponsorship now or in the future (e.g., H-1B).
- Required Technical Skills:
- Experience in PFHA, or hydrologic/hydraulic/watershed/reservoir modeling.
- Statistical analysis of hydrometeorological time series.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and relational databases (SQL).
- Basic geospatial processing using ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Preferred Skills:
- Modeling tools: RiverWare, MODSIM, HEC-ResSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, etc.
- Programming: Python, R, C#, VB.NET.
- Downstream consequences modeling using LifeSim.
- Soft Skills: Excellent oral/written communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
