About the Programme & Work Environment
The successful candidate will enroll for a PhD in Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Andy Sederman, joining the vibrant MSCA Doctoral Network FairCFD[cite: 9403, 9404]. The project focuses on Flow MRI (magnetic resonance imaging of flowing fluids), a non-invasive imaging technique uniquely valuable for studying flows under realistic operating conditions to infer rheological behavior directly from experimental data.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and run innovative Flow MRI experiments on a range of non-Newtonian fluids in both steady and periodic flow.
- Develop and continuously optimize MRI acquisition strategies to dramatically improve data collection efficiency and enhance spatial and temporal resolution.
- Increase the quantitative accuracy of Flow MRI data through improved reconstruction techniques and precise uncertainty estimation.
- Assess the ability to accurately model complex fluids using adjoint accelerated Bayesian inference combined with experimental Flow MRI data.
- Undertake strategic network secondments at KTH (Stockholm, Sweden) and the University of Salerno (Salerno, Italy).
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Educational Status: Applicants must have a First Class (or a high 2:1) or an equivalent degree in a relevant discipline, such as chemical engineering, engineering, or physics.
