About the Programme

The Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) is an established world-class scientific facility that conducts research and technology development centered on the maritime domain. The CMRE Visiting Scientist Programme is designed to support the Research Division (RD) and the Engineering and Information Technology Division (EITD). Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

• Nationality: Applications are strictly limited to nationals of NATO member states (e.g., USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Türkiye, etc.).
• Educational & Experience Status: You must possess a Ph.D. and have at least 7 years of post-Ph.D. work experience in a related field; OR possess a Master's Degree with at least 10 years of experience post-Master's.
• Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 21 years old to be considered.
• Language Proficiency: Must meet the English SLP 3333 standard.
• Security Clearance: Participation may require obtaining a NATO Secret security clearance certificate or interim clearance issued by the national authorities of the researcher's country of origin prior to arrival.

Remuneration & Conditions

• Salary Structure: Visiting Scientists receive a highly competitive monthly salary of €4,584.89.
• Taxation: Salaries are not exempted from taxation. Scientists are entirely responsible for declaring their income to appropriate national fiscal authorities.
• Travel & Logistics: Paid travel to and from the CMRE is provided (if the assignment is longer than 30 consecutive days). Scientists are responsible for obtaining their own visas for Italy.
• Insurance: Mandatory insurance coverage for illness and accidents (including accidents on duty) must be arranged and proven by the scientist for the whole period at CMRE.
• Intellectual Property: Visiting Scientists must sign a statement acknowledging that all proprietary rights in any work carried out under the VRP shall be vested in the organization.
