About the Role & Work Environment
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the focus of the political process to address Climate Change. The Communication and Engagement Division ensures that the global response to climate change is informed by a single cohesive message based on the outcomes of the intergovernmental process. The Communications Subdivision focuses on external and internal communications with the aim of ensuring that the public and key stakeholders are well informed. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in ensuring the timeliness and quality of the secretariat's outreach, with a specific focus on Francophone communications and social media channels.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the research, conceptualization, and production of innovative French content for UN Climate Change's digital channels (Instagram, Twitter/X, WhatsApp).
- Adapt, draft, and publish Francophone content for digital platforms, ensuring alignment with the organization's editorial guidelines.
- Translate communication materials, social media posts, web content, and subtitles into French with high linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
- Support the creation of social media cards, sliders, and audio-visual materials using basic editing and design tools.
- Monitor and analyze statistics related to Francophone social media content and contribute to performance reporting.
- Support engagement with Francophone media outlets, including maintaining contact lists for regional African and Middle Eastern media.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Educational Status: Must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's or PhD) OR be in the final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor's) at a recognized university.
- Fields of Study: Public relations, journalism, visual design, media, translation, languages, environmental studies, or international relations. Other fields considered if the candidate has substantial experience in social media/translation.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in French (both oral and written) with excellent drafting skills is mandatory. Fluency in English is also required. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Canva and similar design tools is required. Experience with video editing tools for social media is a strong asset.
Remuneration & Conditions
- Unpaid Status: UNFCCC secretariat internships are not remunerated. The selected intern is responsible for all costs, including medical insurance.
- Work Hours: This is a part-time internship requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week.
