About the Role & Work Environment

The UNFCCC is the focal point of the global political process to address Climate Change, supporting the Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol. The Operations Coordination Division ensures the strategic focus and operational improvement of the secretariat. As an intern within the Records Management Team, you will gain deep, practical experience in archival activities. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the secretariat remains an agile, effective organization by preserving its physical legacy and transitioning its historical data into modernized digital formats.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the active implementation of advanced digital preservation and archives management systems.
  • Execute Quality Assurance (QA) protocols for the ongoing Web archiving project.
  • Support complex data migration projects to ensure continuity and accessibility of historical climate records.
  • Catalogue, index, digitize, and methodically organize a vast array of physical and digital information resources.
  • Assist in critical archival appraisal and the methodical disposal of outdated physical and digital records.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Educational Status: Must be enrolled in a graduate school program (Master's/PhD) OR in the final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor's).
  • Fields of Study: Strong preference for students studying Archives, Records, Information Management, Library Science, History, Business Administration, Computer Science, or Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
  • Language Proficiency: A solid working knowledge of English (both oral and written) is strictly required.
  • IT Requirements (If Remote/Hybrid): Must possess a reliable laptop/PC (Windows 10+ or latest macOS), active antivirus software, updated browsers, high-speed internet, and a mobile phone for Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

Remuneration & Conditions

  • Financials: The internship is not remunerated. Selected interns are entirely responsible for all costs, including travel, accommodation, and medical insurance.
  • Location Constraints: While primarily on-site in Bonn, Germany, permit restrictions may limit the on-site duration to a maximum of 3 months, potentially requiring the remainder of the internship to be completed remotely.
  • Workload: Interns must commit to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
