About the Role & Work Environment
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) actively supports the Government of Uganda in strengthening crime prevention and criminal justice institutions, promoting the rule of law, and effectively addressing emerging global threats, including organized crime and violent extremism. The internship is based within the Programme Office in Uganda (POUGA) in Kampala. As an intern, you will work in a multicultural, diverse environment where tolerance, understanding, and respect for differing opinions are paramount to achieving the UN's sustainable development goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the supervision of a designated staff member, the intern will be expected to commit five days a week (40 hours) to perform the following duties:
- Support the core operations of the Strengthening Crime Prevention Criminal Justice Programme.
- Assist heavily with the project focusing on Promoting Accountability, Integrity, and Transparency in Justice.
- Provide robust administrative and operational assistance to the UNODC Programme Office in Uganda.
- Ensure the effective, day-to-day implementation of various programme activities and initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in both spoken and written English is strictly required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered a strong advantage.
