The VSS engages and educates people worldwide to encourage support for the ideals of the United Nations. Within this section, the selected intern will primarily assist in preparing for the 2026 Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship (RAF) programme. The RAF Fellowship provides talented young journalists from developing countries and transition economies with in-depth exposure to the work of the UN, allowing them to cover the UN General Assembly and learn from international media experts. This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person in New York, offering direct immersion into the UN's global communications apparatus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the RAF Manager and the Chief of Unit, the intern's duties will include:

  • Assisting in the comprehensive management and preparation of the 2026 RAF programme.
  • Developing and posting highly engaging social media content across platforms, including text posts, images, videos, and infographics.
  • Interacting directly with digital followers by promptly responding to comments and messages on official social media accounts (Facebook and X).
  • Monitoring social media metrics and contributing to the creation of relevant performance reports.
  • Providing operational support to other units within the VSS as needed, including responding to visitors' queries at the Public Inquiries (PIU) Counter.
  • Assisting with the broader "Teach the UN" initiative and performing other administrative duties as assigned.
