About the Role & Work Environment

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to international cooperation and coordination on the state and behaviour of the Earth’s atmosphere, its interaction with the land and oceans, the weather and climate it produces, and the resulting distribution of water resources. The Office of Global Communication and Engagement is at the forefront of translating complex meteorological data into accessible, compelling public narratives. By joining this dynamic team in Geneva, you will work under the primary supervision of the Social Media Officer in an inclusive, diverse environment that values creativity and global outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the prestigious annual WMO calendar competition, which attracts hundreds of highly competitive photography entries from around the globe.
  • Develop and execute an innovative social media marketing strategy to ensure the calendar competition is heavily promoted across all official WMO digital channels.
  • Systematically catalogue all submitted photography entries, maintaining a highly organized database for review.
  • Actively assist the communications team in reviewing submissions and curating the shortlist of finalists for the calendar.
  • Provide comprehensive support with weekly communications planning, content drafting, and digital engagement initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Age Requirement: Pursuant to WMO Standing Instructions, applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for consideration.
  • Educational Background: Ideal candidates are currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a degree program in Communications, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
