About the Internship (Chambers)

The Chambers of the International Criminal Court (ICC) are responsible for conducting fair and impartial trials. Interns in the Chambers work closely with Judges and legal staff to support judicial proceedings. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in international criminal law, public international law, and human rights law within a multicultural environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Judges and legal staff, the intern will perform the following tasks:

  • Legal Research: Conduct research on legal issues and jurisprudence related to international criminal law.
  • Evidence Analysis: Summarize evidence and assist in the analysis of case files.
  • Drafting Support: Assist in the drafting of legal documents, decisions, and orders.
  • Citation Checking: Check citations and verify references in legal texts.
  • Case Preparation: Prepare case files and assist with the management of proceedings.
  • Other Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Educational Background: Candidates must have a degree in law (LLB, LLM, JD) or be in the final stages of their legal studies.
  • Specialization: Studies in criminal law, public international law, international humanitarian law, or human rights law are desirable.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court (English or French) is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
  • Skills:
    • Strong legal research and drafting skills.
    • Good standard of computer skills (Microsoft Office).
    • Ability to adapt to a multicultural work environment.
    • Strong oral communication and analytical skills.

Internship Conditions
  • Unfunded: Internship placements at the ICC are unfunded. The Court does not provide remuneration.
  • Expenses: Interns must support themselves for the entire duration of the internship (accommodation, travel, living expenses, etc.).
  • Insurance: Interns are responsible for their own health insurance coverage.
