About the Unit
The Occupational Health Unit (OHU) is responsible for promoting the health and safety of IOM staff members worldwide. The Unit is involved in the medical clearance of staff members, the management of sick leave, and the medical evacuation of staff members. This internship provides an opportunity to support the OHU's digital health records system (EarthMed) and administrative functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Occupational Health Administrator and the overall supervision of the Head of the Occupational Health Unit, the intern will:
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the OHU regarding filing, tracking, and retrieval of medical files.
- Records Management: Sort, classify, and file medical information and reports into appropriate files.
- EarthMed System:
- Upload medical documents to EarthMed and monitor the completion of required exams (Entry on Duty, Periodic Medical Exams).
- Update the list of staff members in EarthMed.
- Medical Clearance: Assist in the preparation of medical clearance and sick leave records.
- Claims Support: Assist the Health Claims and Insurance Unit (HCIU) with the reimbursement process if needed.
- Other Duties: Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Status: Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Undergraduates from International Studies, Medical Sciences, or Business-related courses (with a school requirement for internship/OJT).
- Recent graduates from an accredited academic institution (International Studies, Business Administration, Public Health, or related fields).
- Accreditation: Universities must be listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Language Skills: Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
- Experience:
- Prior internship or volunteer experience in administrative, HR, or healthcare settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with document handling, data entry, or basic health records management.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information.
- Exposure to administrative tools (e.g., Oracle) and willingness to learn systems like EarthMed.

Internship Conditions
