About the Role & Work Environment

The UN System and Multilateral Engagement Division, based in New York, acts as the key interface between WFP and international political, peace and security, development, and humanitarian actors. Working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of the NYC office, the intern will help galvanize WFP's government partners to fulfill their commitments under the 2030 Agenda, mobilizing global attention towards a world without hunger.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist WFP staff members following assigned events related to the General Assembly, Special Sessions, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the Security Council.
• Participate in preparatory meetings and prepare detailed Notes for the Record (NFRs) highlighting key points and critical outcomes from intergovernmental fora.
• Attend meetings in a support role for Country-Specific or Regional Taskforces, the UN Development Group (UNDG), and UN Reform initiatives.
• Take precise notes, report on discussions, and proactively flag issues of consequence to the WFP mandate.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

• Educational Status: You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university, OR have recently graduated within six months prior to the application date. University course attendance in the past 12 months is required.
• Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English is strictly required (Proficiency/Level C). Knowledge of another UN language (Chinese, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian) is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in the MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is mandatory. Experience in data visualization, design, and information products (e.g., Tableau, Publisher) is preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience working with the UN system (Secretariat, Agencies, Funds, and Programmes) is an asset. Experience working or studying in a country other than your current residence is also preferred.
• Family Policy: Candidates who have sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters working as WFP staff members are not eligible to apply.
