The Pharmacy Intern will work under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist within a community pharmacy operating in an institutional setting. This compliance-critical role is designed to provide hands-on experience by interacting with a diverse patient population, managing prescriptions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist with direct patient care, including patient counseling, disease state education, device demonstration, and delivering medications to the bedside.
- Create and maintain patient profiles in the pharmacy information system, entering necessary prescription plan data for processing and adjudication.
- Address and resolve insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues by communicating effectively with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists.
- Retrieve and prepare medications for the pharmacist's final review and verification.
- Prepare inventory reports, and submit, receive, and place pharmacy inventory in stock.
- Answer inbound telephone calls, triaging inquiries to the appropriate pharmacy staff based on the nature of the call.
- Supply and monitor ambulatory dispensing robotic technology used in the facility.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Status: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program.
