About the Role & Work Environment
Desertification, along with climate change and the loss of biodiversity, was identified as one of the greatest challenges to sustainable development during the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. Established in 1994, the UNCCD is the sole legally binding international agreement linking environment and development to sustainable land management. This internship is located in the Executive Office (EO) in Bonn and focuses on supporting the Evaluation Office and the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary. You will work in a client-oriented environment, collaborating closely with EO staff to exchange information and ensure smooth service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Compile and analyze data for internal monitoring, collected from all UNCCD units.
- Assist in the preparation of the highly critical COP 17 document concerning performance monitoring.
- Follow up on UNCCD evaluation recommendations, ensuring they are implemented and their status is recorded in a timely manner.
- Help further develop and manage the intranet page of the Evaluation Office.
- Provide substantive, technical, and logistical support to the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary and assist with other Executive Office tasks as needed.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Educational Status: Must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (Master's or higher); OR be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor's).
- Field of Study: While no professional work experience is required, applicants must have a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship they are applying for.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered a strong advantage.
