Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with approximately 300 people diagnosed every single day. The Macular Society is the only charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of this disease through world-class research, advice, and support. To advance this mission, the Society has partnered with the Daphne Jackson Trust—an organization dedicated to empowering and reigniting the careers of researchers—to fund a three-year fellowship. This prestigious part-time fellowship can be held at any UK university or research institution, offering a flexible and supportive environment for scientists looking to return to the research sector while focusing on finding new treatments and cures to beat macular disease forever.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct rigorous, high-quality research focused on any type of macular disease, contributing directly to the Macular Society's goal of finding new treatments and a cure.
  • Collaborate closely with your identified academic supervisor and the host institution's department to execute your proposed research project.
  • Manage a part-time research schedule over a fixed three-year period, balancing professional development and project milestones.
  • Engage with the Daphne Jackson Trust's specialized retraining and mentoring programs designed to help you confidently reintegrate into the academic research community.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Career Break: Candidates must be researchers who have taken a career break and are now looking to return to their academic research careers.
