About the Role & Work Environment
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. For over 32 years, UNEP FI has driven the international sustainable finance agenda. As an intern within the Climate team, you will focus on scaling up climate mitigation initiatives for financial institutions across Europe and other regions, promoting the full integration of climate considerations into the banking sector to foster a sustainable future.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the organization, planning, and delivery of bilateral and collective engagements with banks and insurers to raise awareness across their climate mitigation journey.
- Conduct regional analysis of existing climate transition capabilities to identify gaps and advance institutional capacity for financial decarbonization.
- Assist in the design and preparation of country-specific training materials and capacity-building work (from impact analysis to Paris Alignment).
- Support maturity analysis of emissions data capabilities and explore opportunities for advancement, including gathering country-specific GHG data and transition scenarios.
- Prepare reporting materials, administrative tasks, and assist with translating global UNEP FI resources to local contexts.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Educational Status: Must be enrolled in a graduate program, in the final year of an undergraduate degree, or have graduated within the past year.
- Academic Background: Studies must be in finance, environmental science, business administration, international relations, or financial services.
- Experience: No professional work experience is required, though industry certifications in financial services and risk management are highly valued.
- Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is strictly required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
