About the Programme & Work Environment

The WTO Secretariat employs over 600 staff from around 80 member countries, all working together to ensure that trade negotiations progress smoothly and that the rules of international trade are correctly implemented. The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) for 2027 is a unique opportunity for qualified young professionals from WTO Members with low or no professional representation in the Secretariat. By joining this initiative, you will be part of a diverse, non-smoking environment that values competence, efficiency, and integrity, giving you unparalleled access to the inner workings of international trade diplomacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enhance personal and professional knowledge of WTO operations and international trade issues.
  • Assist trade policy analysts, research economists, and statisticians in conducting comprehensive global trade research.
  • Support dispute settlement lawyers and legal officers in ensuring international trade rules are correctly implemented.
  • Contribute to the smooth progression of international trade negotiations among member countries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including press officers, translators, and IT professionals, to support the overall mission of the WTO.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Age Limit: Applicants must be up to 32 years of age as of January 1, 2027.
  • Nationality: You must be a national of a WTO Member country. Applications from members with low or no professional representation in the WTO Secretariat are particularly encouraged.
  • Educational & Professional Status: Must be a qualified young professional with a strong interest in international trade law, economics, or policy.
