About the Programme

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads international efforts to defeat hunger and to achieve food security for all, working in over 130 countries worldwide. The Internship Programme aims to attract talented young women and men who are strongly motivated to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest academic experience in FAO's domains. Through the FAO internship experience, interns will contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework to support the 2030 Agenda, focusing on the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform specific functions and tasks as detailed in the individual Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office.
  • Adapt to an international multicultural environment and utilize good communication skills.
  • Contribute directly to FAO's mission of better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
  • Work within assigned fields that align with your unique academic profile and the ongoing needs of the Organization.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Educational Status: You must be currently enrolled in an under-graduate or graduate degree programme, or be a recent graduate.
  • Institutional Accreditation: FAO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from an institution accredited/recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be aged between 21 and 30 at the time of application.
  • Nationality: You must be a national of an FAO Member country.
  • Language Skills: A working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is required. Knowledge of a second FAO language is considered a strong asset.
  • Family Restriction: Candidates with family members (mother, father, sister, or brother) employed by FAO are not eligible for the Internship Programme.
