About UN Women JLO
The UN Women Japan Liaison Office (JLO) in Tokyo works to extend policy dialogue, mobilize resources, and raise awareness about gender equality and women's empowerment. The office engages with the Government of Japan, private sector, parliamentarians, academia, and the public to build partnerships and support UN Women's mission globally.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of the Japan Liaison Office, the intern will perform the following duties:
- Advocacy & Outreach:
- Support the implementation of advocacy and partnership strategies.
- Assist in the "HeForShe" campaign and youth engagement initiatives.
- Support the organization of key events, such as International Women's Day (March 8) and international conferences.
- Resource Mobilization:
- Support partnership development with the private sector (WEPs) and other stakeholders.
- Communications:
- Assist in translation and interpretation between English and Japanese.
- Prepare agendas, minutes, and briefing notes.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance as required.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Status: Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's, PhD, or equivalent).
- Currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor's or equivalent).
- Have graduated with a university degree and can start the internship within one year of graduation.
- Field of Study: Gender Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, or a related field.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Language Skills: Fluency in Japanese and English is required (Native level Japanese is preferred).
- Experience:
- Experience in advocacy, communications, or event coordination is an asset.
- Knowledge of gender equality issues and the UN system is desirable.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Internship Conditions
- Stipend: Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources (universities/institutions) will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize basic living costs.
