About the TICAD Unit
The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) was launched in 1993 by the Government of Japan to promote Africa’s development, peace, and security. UNDP is a key co-organizer. The TICAD Unit within the Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA) in New York supports the programming and organization of the conference and its follow-up mechanisms.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support the TICAD Unit in strategic communications, multimedia production, and event management. Key duties include:
- Digital Communications:
- Draft and edit content for social media (X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).
- Update and maintain the TICAD webpage on the UNDP website.
- Create engaging visuals (infographics, cards) using Canva/Adobe Suite.
- Multimedia Production:
- Edit videos for social media using Adobe Premier Pro or similar tools.
- Support the creation of multimedia campaigns to highlight TICAD's impact.
- Event Management:
- Support the organization of side events, webinars, and the TICAD Ministerial Meeting.
- Assist with logistics, invitations, and attendee management.
- Knowledge Management:
- Maintain contact databases and support reporting activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Status: Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's, PhD, or equivalent).
- Currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor's or equivalent).
- Have graduated with a university degree and can start the internship within one year of graduation.
- Field of Study: Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, or related fields.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Language Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of Japanese is an asset.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in social media platforms and content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud - Photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro).
- Experience with web content management systems (CMS) is an advantage.
- Strong video editing skills are highly desirable.
- Competencies:
- Excellent drafting and editing skills.
- Ability to work independently and remotely.
- Creativity and attention to detail.
