About the Unit
The position is located in the Front Office of the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Special Assistant to the Chief Information Technology Officer. OICT leads the strategic direction of IT and communications across the UN Secretariat, enabling the organization's global operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work as a full member of the OICT team under the supervision and support of a staff member.
- Pursue projects designed to make a significant difference in the whole department's operations.
- Support activities related to digital transformation, information management, and communication technology.
- Take advantage of opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall and its global functions.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); OR
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
- Field of Study: Computer science, information systems, communication, mathematics, statistics, data science, public administration, international relations, or a related field.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
- Skills: Be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Core Competencies: Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of its Charter. Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
