World Trade Organization (WTO) Internship Program 2026 Geneva, Switzerland | interns to receive daily allowance | Applications open till 31 December 2026

The WTO Secretariat maintains internship programmes for post-graduate students and recent graduates with an advanced university degree wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. The programmes are designed to increase diversity at the WTO. There are three main streams:

• The WTO Internship Programme: Open to post-graduate students and recent graduates from all WTO members.
• The China LDC and Accessions Internship Programme: Specifically for nationals of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and developing countries.
• The WTO Support Programme for Doctoral Studies: Focused on PhD students.

Assignments take place in Geneva, Switzerland. Interns work across various divisions of the Secretariat, which employs over 600 staff. Tasks may vary depending on the division but generally include:

• Legal & Policy Work: Assisting dispute settlement lawyers, legal officers, and trade policy analysts.
• Research & Analysis: Supporting research economists and statisticians in analyzing trade rules and implementation.
• Support Functions: Assisting with press/media relations, translation/interpretation, finance, human resources, and IT support.

• Nationality: Must be a national of a WTO Member state.
• Education:
  • Completed undergraduate studies and currently enrolled in a post-graduate program (Master's or PhD); OR
  • Recent graduate with an advanced university degree (graduated within the last 12 months).
• Age Limit: Must be between 21 and 30 years of age.

• Knowledge: Understanding of the multilateral trading system and international trade rules.
• Language Skills: Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset.
• Competencies: Strong research, analytical, and drafting skills; ability to work in a multicultural environment.

• Allowance: Interns receive a daily allowance (typically CHF 60, including weekends and official holidays).
• Visa: Interns may be issued with a Swiss legitimation card type "H", which serves as a work and residence permit for the duration of the internship.
• Travel: Travel expenses to and from Geneva are generally the responsibility of the intern.
• Insurance: Interns must have valid health insurance coverage.
• Notice Period: The internship may be terminated by the WTO or the intern with one week's notice.

The WTO does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview, processing, or training).
