About the Unit

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. Within UNDP, the Sustainable Finance Hub (SFH) focuses on unlocking public and private capital for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This internship sits within the G20 Global Land Initiative (GLI) Coordination Office, launched by the G20 and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The GLI aims to reduce degraded land by 50% by 2040. You will play a crucial role in strengthening this partnership and advancing global sustainable land management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct operational support for the development and monitoring of the UNDP portfolio and projects within the G20 GLI framework.
  • Deliver critical logistical and coordination support to G20 GLI activities and UNDP strategic events, including major conferences, regional meetings, and COP16.
  • Assist in organizing workshops, webinars, and consultations by drafting agendas, managing invitations, and preparing briefing materials.
  • Liaise effectively with a diverse range of external partners—including governments, NGOs, private sector entities, and academia—to foster collaboration on sustainable land management.
  • Support the team by drafting meeting minutes, reports, and concise briefs for both internal and external audiences.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties related to event coordination, travel arrangements, and procurement processes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Status: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (master's or higher).
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's or equivalent).
    • Have recently graduated with a university degree (and must start the internship within one year of graduation).
    • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.
  • Field of Study: International Relations, Public Administration, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development, or closely related fields.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of one of the other five official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered a strong asset.
  • Thematic Interest: A demonstrated passion for and interest in sustainable development, environmental policy, or land management.
  • Soft Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills, combined with the ability to thrive in a multicultural, diverse environment.
  • Technical Skills: High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Internship Conditions & Benefits

  • Financial Support: UNDP provides a monthly stipend to eligible interns in accordance with the provisions of its official Internship Policy.
  • Insurance & Logistics: Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical and life insurance for the duration of the internship. Travel, accommodation, and living arrangements in Bonn, Germany, are the responsibility of the intern.
  • Work Model: The internship operates on a full-time basis for a total duration of 6 months.
