About the Role & The Gender Team
UNDP is the UN's global development network, working in more than 170 countries to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience. Gender equality and women's empowerment are central to UNDP's mandate and the achievement of its Strategic Plan. The Gender Team, part of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), provides critical policy advice and technical support to advance gender equality across UNDP's portfolio. The Team leads flagship initiatives including the Gender Equality Seal for Development and the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions. Interns will be assigned to specific workstreams depending on skills and interests to support the Global Programme.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Programme Implementation and Coordination: Support the implementation of gender-related global programmes, including planning and monitoring activities. Coordinate independently with UNDP Country Offices, manage global programme delivery, and assist in organizing webinars, workshops, and virtual meetings across multiple time zones.
- Knowledge Management and Research: Conduct desk reviews and gender-related research. Compile, synthesize, and organize data from diverse sources to support programmatic work. Enter baseline verification data into Seal platforms and develop knowledge products for gender integration in public administration.
- Communications and Outreach: Draft compelling blog content, storytelling pieces, and visual materials. Plan and manage social media communications, prepare newsletters using MailChimp, and regularly update the Gender Seal for Development SharePoint and other knowledge-sharing spaces.
- Organizational Support: Assist with front-office functions, coordination processes, and meeting follow-ups. Strengthen information flows and coordinate the delivery of internal and external events.

- Educational Status: Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a Master's degree programme (within the last 1 year) in international development, gender studies, public administration, social sciences, or a related field.
- Work Experience: Candidates should ideally have 2 years of experience related to gender equality and women's empowerment.
- Immigration Note (US Permanent Residents): Under US immigration law, accepting a staff position with an international organization like UNDP may have significant implications for US Permanent Residents ("Green Card" holders). Applicants may be required to relinquish their resident status and accept a G-4 visa.

- Inclusivity & Diversity: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP. The organization takes a "leave no one behind" approach, and individuals from marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Zero Tolerance: UNDP enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation, misconduct, harassment, and abuse of authority. All selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
