About the Programme

The WTO Secretariat maintains a highly sought-after, limited internship programme specifically designed for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Within the Financial Management Section, interns play a crucial supporting role in maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and alignment of organizational objectives. This is an incredible opportunity to work full-time alongside leading professionals in finance and corporate services to support the overarching mission of the WTO.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the comprehensive preparation and monitoring of budgetary and financial reports.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to directly support the development and implementation of advanced financial planning tools and budget tracking systems.
  • Actively participate in the rigorous review of financial data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the WTO's organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with team members to prepare insightful presentations and briefing materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide essential support for ad-hoc projects and daily operations within the Financial Management Section.
  • Provide dedicated support during the external audit processes where applicable.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Educational Status: You must be a post-graduate university student having completed at least one year of your postgraduate studies (e.g., Master's degree).
  • Degree Focus: Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Nationality: Interns are exclusively recruited from among nationals of WTO Member states and Observer governments.
  • Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Familiarity with financial modeling and data visualization tools is considered a strong plus.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent English is strictly mandatory. Working proficiency in French is highly preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Detail-oriented, strong organizational abilities, excellent written/verbal communication, and a high level of integrity when handling sensitive financial data.

Internship Conditions & Policies

  • Remuneration: Paid interns receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 (this includes weekends and official holidays falling within the selected period). No other remuneration is provided.
  • Logistics: Internships take place onsite in Geneva, Switzerland. Travel expenses to and from Geneva cannot be paid by the WTO, and interns are responsible for their own health and accident insurance.
  • Legal Status: Depending on nationality, interns may be issued a Swiss legitimation card type "H" which serves as a work and residence permit for the duration of the internship.
  • Working Hours: Interns are expected to work full-time. Working from home is generally not an option outside of specific health guidance.
