UNDP Quantitative Research Internship 2026 (Istanbul/Remote)

Are you a data-driven economics student eager to apply your statistical prowess to solve real-world humanitarian challenges? The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a sharp Quantitative Research Intern to join the Crisis & Resilience Portfolio at the Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD). Whether working on-site in Türkiye or remotely, you will leverage advanced tools like Python and R to analyze agricultural value chains, empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in fragile, conflict-affected regions like the Sahel and Afghanistan.

💡 99jobs Pro-Tip: How to Stand Out

To instantly capture the hiring manager's attention, ensure your resume explicitly lists the statistical software you have mastered, such as R, Python, or Stata, alongside visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau. Because the application system only permits a single file upload, you must strategically merge your tailored Cover Letter, CV, and an impressive academic writing sample into one cohesive PDF document before submitting.

About the Role & Work Environment

The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) leads the UNDP's private sector strategy, mobilizing industry actors and foundations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Operating under the Crisis and Resilience portfolio, the Center focuses on identifying and promoting private sector-led practices to address major challenges like humanitarian crises, climate change, and conflict-affected economies. Specifically, the team works to restore disrupted agricultural market systems and revitalize value chains to foster sustainable livelihoods in fragile settings worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather and synthesize crucial information from reports and data sources relating to agricultural systems and private sector resilience in fragile contexts.
  • Collect and analyze extensive trade data, including imports, exports, and trade flows, to build market intelligence tools.
  • Execute quantitative analyses using statistical software such as R or Python.
  • Provide comprehensive data management support, which includes data cleaning, processing, and econometric analysis.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure the integrity of databases utilized for reporting and analysis.
  • Assist in preparing compelling data visualizations—such as charts, graphs, and tables—to effectively communicate research findings.
  • Provide writing and editing support for drafting official reports and written outputs.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

  • Educational Status: Applicants must be enrolled in a Master's degree, the final year of a Bachelor's degree, or have recently graduated with a degree in economics, quantitative analysis, or a related discipline.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience utilizing statistical software like R, Python, or Stata is required. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SPSS, KOBO, or JavaScript is considered highly desirable.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Candidates need a clear understanding of economic concepts and private sector resilience, coupled with solid academic writing and research skills.
  • Regional Knowledge: Prior experience studying or working on development issues in conflict-affected regions, particularly Afghanistan or the Sahel, is a strong advantage.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent written and oral English communication skills are an absolute requirement.

Remuneration & Conditions

  • Financial Support: Interns who are not financially supported by a university, government, or scholarship will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with UNDP Internship Policies.
  • Insurance & Travel: Interns are completely responsible for their own visa, travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Selected interns must also secure and provide proof of medical and life/accident insurance.

How to Apply

  1. Draft a brief Cover Letter (in English) detailing your motivation, relevant quantitative skills, and qualifications.
  2. Ensure your current CV is completely updated in English, highlighting your statistical software capabilities.
  3. Select at least one relevant academic or professional writing sample.
  4. Crucial Step: Combine your Cover Letter, CV, and writing sample into one single PDF document, as the application system will not accept multiple uploads.
