About the Role & Work Environment
The UNDP Information and Technology Management (ITM) Unit in New York is responsible for supporting UNDP Country Offices around the world with essential ICT solutions. This internship offers a stimulating and versatile experience in an international environment, interacting with partners from more than 170 countries. As an intern, your work will have a direct global impact on the development efforts of the international community by ensuring seamless, high-quality digital communications, video conferencing, and enterprise collaboration for UN operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Video Conferencing service for UNDP offices, focusing on platforms like MS Teams and Zoom.
- Manage Telephone Requests and Cell Phone Ordering processes.
- Interact effectively with ICT managers to resolve live video conferencing issues, schedule conferences using centralized systems, and push software/firmware updates to video codecs.
- Monitor conference performance and statistics using cloud portals and take corrective action to rectify detected issues.
- Participate in the production integration of new sites, update essential documentation, and train new local site support teams.
- Provide guidance and training to staff members on MS Teams and Zoom products to eliminate recurring user errors.
- Prepare, draft, and publish internal technical documentation and knowledge base articles.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
- Educational Status: Must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, in the final academic year of a Bachelor's degree, enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship, OR have graduated within the last year with a degree in IT Engineering, Networks, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Required knowledge of networking and network security (TCP/IP, NAT, firewalls), video conferencing platforms, cloud telephony, and Microsoft collaboration tools (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Highly Desired Skills: Experience with scripting languages, web standards, and data analysis is considered a strong advantage. Experience producing virtual/hybrid events is also highly valued.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken English is strictly required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
- Core Competencies: Excellent organizational skills, discretion with confidential information, ability to navigate a team through change, and strong verbal/written communication.
Remuneration & Conditions
- Financial Support: Interns engaged in-person who are not financially supported by a university or government will receive a monthly stipend (approximately $1,000 USD for the New York duty station) to help cover basic daily expenses like meals and transportation.
- Insurance & Living Costs: Interns are fully responsible for securing adequate medical insurance and must provide a certificate of good health. UNDP does not reimburse medical insurance or costs arising from accidents/illness.
