Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership as part of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organisational strategy, decision‑making and transformation.
  • Manage organisational risk across reputation, legal, financial, people and security dimensions.
  • Lead and model an inclusive, transparent and decisive leadership style that supports a supportive, innovative, high‑performance culture.
  • Develop and deliver a forward‑looking People strategy aligned with Global Witness’s mission, values and global context.
  • Act as trusted adviser to the CEO, leadership team and Board on organisational development and change.
  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion and lead culture and transformation initiatives that support staff through change.
  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, ensuring policies and practices are legally compliant, values‑driven and fit for a global workforce.
  • Ensure HR systems and data support organisational effectiveness and evidence‑based decision‑making.
  • Lead, coach and develop the People function as a proactive, strategic partner, managing team budget and evaluating impact of People initiatives.
  • Scan external trends, bring in new approaches, and represent Global Witness to donors and external audiences where needed.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • Significant senior HR leadership experience, ideally in a global, mission‑driven or NGO context.
  • Proven track record leading culture change and organisational transformation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and awareness of international HR contexts; experience working with trade unions is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape organisation direction beyond HR and influence at senior leadership and Board level.
  • Proven experience embedding diversity, equity and inclusion at strategic level.
  • Strategic thinker able to balance long‑term vision with hands‑on delivery.
  • Behaviours: credible and influential, courageous and decisive, deeply committed to DEI and the organisation’s mission, comfortable in complex, agile environments.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Extensive senior HR/People leadership background with responsibility for strategy, risk and culture.
  • Experience in international or values‑led organisations preferred.
  • Alignment with Global Witness’s mission on climate justice and human rights, and commitment to its values and culture priorities.
