Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support and follow implementation of key nature restoration projects, focusing on EU Nature Restoration Regulation and National Restoration Plans.
  • Assist with research and drafting of reports, briefings, policy papers and other documents.
  • Support organisation of discussions with external stakeholders and relevant meetings/events.
  • Provide notes from relevant events and meetings as requested by supervisor.
  • Support the team in day‑to‑day administrative functions.
  • Carry out other tasks reasonably delegated by the line manager in support of the programme.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • Studying towards a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Natural Sciences, Biology or related).
  • Knowledge and familiarity with EU nature conservation and restoration policies and good understanding of EU institutions.
  • Complete fluency in English, with excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven analytical, conceptual, organisational, multitasking and problem‑solving skills; detail‑ and outcome‑oriented.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring own ideas; strong team player interested in working in an international environment.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Must have the right to live and work in Germany for the entire internship duration; IUCN does not support visa or work permit processes.
  • Must be enrolled in a university or equivalent tertiary institution: undergraduate (after at least 1 year of full‑time study) or graduate student in a relevant programme.
  • Academic programme must be relevant to the internship’s duties and responsibilities.

Internship Specific Text – How You’ll Learn and Grow

This mandatory internship places you inside IUCN’s European Regional Office, supporting real nature restoration projects and EU‑level policy work, which builds practical experience at the interface of science and policy.

You will develop skills in research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, event organisation and international teamwork, while contributing to implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation and National Restoration Plans.
