About the Role & Work Environment

The UNDP works in approximately 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and advance sustainable human development. The UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA), serving 46 Country Offices, plays a catalytic role in advancing integrated, systems-based solutions aligned with national priorities and Agenda 2063. As an intern within the Inclusive Growth and Extractives Team (IGET), you will provide analytical and programmatic support to initiatives promoting inclusive regional value chains, Blue Economy transitions, and national development planning, offering firsthand exposure to trade policy and high-level stakeholder coordination.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct analytical research on Blue Economy value chains, informality dynamics, and trade-climate linkages in selected African contexts.
• Support the operationalization and maintenance of the Continental Development Plans Register, extracting metadata on Agenda 2063 and SDG integration.
• Contribute to the development of a Regional Value Chains Toolkit aligned with AfCFTA implementation priorities and SME participation.
• Draft high-level briefing notes, technical inputs, and communication products for the Ministerial segment of Africa Blue Economy Week (ABEW) 2026.
• Support stakeholder consultations and coordination with the African Union Commission (AUC), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and Member States.
• Consolidate findings and prepare analytical summaries on planning-fiscal coherence and institutional utilization of development plans.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

• Educational Status: Candidates must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (master's or higher) OR have recently graduated within one year with a bachelor's degree in Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related Social Science discipline.
• Experience: No prior work experience is required, but relevant experience in international development is considered a strong asset.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office is mandatory, and strong Graphic Design, Visual Arts, and/or Communications skills are highly desired.
• Language Proficiency: Absolute proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of French is highly desirable for the international remote recruits.
• Core Competencies: Must possess excellent analytical skills, an outgoing initiative-taking mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively in diverse, multi-cultural teams.
