About United Nations Department of Global Communications

The Department of Global Communications (DGC) is responsible for communicating the work and ideals of the United Nations to the world. The Visitors Services Section engages and educates global communities to encourage support for UN activities through guided tours, briefings, and public inquiries.

About the Internship Programme – How You’ll Learn and Grow

Interns will gain hands-on experience in public information, communications, and outreach, working directly with the public and supporting UN outreach activities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global education and awareness efforts while developing practical skills in communications, research, and event management.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and organizing outreach activities to educate the public about the UN’s work.
  • Support the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events.
  • Conduct research on UN thematic issues.
  • Provide general office support (drafting correspondence, maintaining files/records, organizing meetings).
  • Assist with drafting articles and text for fact sheets and information materials.
  • Respond to visitors’ queries in person and in writing.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and analysis of visitor experience surveys.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
  • Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level) or enrolled in a graduate school programme.
  • Related field of study (communications, journalism, international relations, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of standard software (MS Word, MS PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, research, and organizational skills.
