The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The Industry and Economy Division encourages decision makers in government, local authorities, and industry to adopt policies and technologies that promote sustainable consumption and production, efficient resource use, safe chemicals management, and mutually supportive trade and environment policies.
UNEP FI is a strategic partnership between the UN and over 500 banks, insurers, and investors, shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda for more than 32 years.
Through work streams, regional activities, peer learning, training, and research, UNEP FI helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and a sustainable future.
The internship places you within the UNEP FI Secretariat, supporting communications and events teams and engaging directly with sustainable finance initiatives worldwide.
You will learn how global environmental and finance agendas are translated into communications, campaigns, and high‑level events while gaining exposure to leading financial institutions and UN processes.
- Assist with writing, editing, and designing communication content, including newsletters, social media, event announcements, web and digital content.
- Support day‑to‑day management and content updates of the UNEP FI website.
- Assist social media outreach and develop proposals for larger social media campaigns (social media, video editing, Canva skills are an asset).
- Monitor web and social media analytics, present findings, and formulate actionable recommendations.
- Support day‑to‑day coordination of events, especially the UNEP FI Global Roundtable in London in June 2026.
- Assist with communications for virtual events and webinars to advance the sustainable finance agenda globally.
- Track media coverage of UNEP FI and its alliances or initiatives.
- Currently in final year or recent graduate in communications, journalism, environmental studies, development studies, economics, business administration, finance, or a related field.
- Some experience in communications is expected; no formal professional work experience is required beyond relevant field of study.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and interest in sustainable finance and environmental issues.
- Ability to work with digital content, social media tools, and basic analytics.
- Insight into how UNEP and UNEP FI drive sustainable finance and environmental agendas at global level.
- Hands‑on experience in communications, social media, and event management within a UN context.
- Exposure to a global network of banks, investors, and insurers working on sustainable finance.
