About the Africa Section (UN DGC)

This internship is located in the Africa Section of the Country Teams, Coordination Operations Division, Department of Global Communications (DGC). The section is responsible for managing stakeholder relations, creating communications content, and supporting the section's mandate to promote UN activities relevant to Africa.

About the Internship Programme – Learning Objectives

The intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Africa Section. This opportunity is designed to be in-person, hybrid, or remote, providing flexibility. The intern will gain experience in event coordination, digital asset creation, research on economic development in Africa, and social media management within the UN system.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Event Coordination & Logistics:
    • Assist in organizing and coordinating key events, including logistics, preparations, and liaising with internal teams.
    • Aid in the creation of event flyers, save-the-date notices, and social media graphics using designated design software.
  • Research & Content Creation:
    • Support research relevant to the section's work, particularly in areas of trade and economic development in Africa.
    • Assist in managing social media accounts by preparing draft content and schedules for review.
    • Assist in transcribing interview recordings for senior team members' review.
  • Partnerships:
    • Contribute to the maintenance of ongoing partnerships with outreach groups, including academic institutions, youth, and women's organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Education Status: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Skills: Must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Values: Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN and ability to interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
Age Limit

No specific age limit is mentioned; eligibility is strictly based on current academic enrollment or recent graduation status.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD programme. Backgrounds in Communications, International Relations, African Studies, or Economics are relevant.
