Human Rights Watch is an international human rights monitoring and advocacy organization known for its in-depth investigations, incisive reporting, and advocacy campaigns. HRW works to change human rights-related policies and practices of influential governments and international institutions.
The intern will focus on projects surrounding fundraising and event management. Students will have opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, professional development workshops, and special events relating to human rights. Interns will network with HRW staff, volunteers, and other interns, applying academic skills in a professional setting.
- Fundraising & Event Management:
- Support fundraising efforts, database management, and event planning for the annual charity dinner and other donor events.
- Coordinate logistics of large-scale events.
- Research & Marketing:
- Conduct prospect research and craft marketing materials.
- Assist with CRM database management.
- Engagement & Training:
- Attend in-house trainings, briefings, and donor events with staff in the Development and Outreach Department.
- Work on other projects as assigned matching the student's interests and abilities.
- Education Status: Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students for the duration of the internship term.
- Work Authorization: Applicants must possess valid work authorization in Japan for the duration of the internship.
- Coursework: Students with relevant coursework in human rights are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme. A demonstrated strong interest in human rights is highly desirable.
- Languages: Advanced level proficiency in Japanese and English (both in writing and speaking) is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, internet applications) and internet research skills are essential.
- Creative Skills: Graphic design and video editing skills are highly valued.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills, proactive approach, reliability, and strong attention to detail are required.
