The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is responsible for strengthening international human rights mechanisms, enhancing equality, countering discrimination, and protecting human rights in situations of conflict. This assignment is based in the Information System and Digital Support Section (ISDSS), which supports mandated human rights investigations regarding digital forensics, online open-source investigation (OSINT), and information security.

This internship provides a framework for students from diverse academic backgrounds to gain exposure to the work of the United Nations. Interns will work in coordination with the Information System and Digital Support Section to support projects relating to digital evidence handling and online open-source investigation.

• Research & Analysis:
  • Help conduct substantive research and analysis of technology trends and applications relating to digital data handling, archiving, and open-source investigation.
  • Help ensure that digital forensic principles are properly applied to digital data and evidence handling.
• Technical Support & Deployment:
  • Facilitate implementation and deployment of modern investigative technical tools and infrastructure.
  • Assist senior staff in providing expert support to commissions of inquiry and fact-finding missions, particularly relating to customized solution development.
• Training & Coordination:
  • Assist in the development of online training materials and production of training modules.
  • Assist with coordination activities related to digital data/evidence collection, processing, analysis, and preservation.

• Education Status: Applicants must meet one of the following:
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor's degree).
• Field of Study: Preferably in Information and Telecommunication Technology, Computer Science, Digital Forensic Science, Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Information Management, or a related field.
